Alma Wade
Without Alma Wade, there is no project Origin. No Perseus. No Harbringer.
She is the beginning of ATC's research into psychic phenomena and possibly the end of ATC itself.
Alma Wade is the daughter of Harlan Wade, one of the top scientists of ATC.
Harland was the first to recognize psychic talents in his daughter, not too long after her birth.
In her presence, people claimed their minds became cloudy.
Their moods changed--soured.
At the age of three, Harlan alerted ATC of the possibility that his daughter possessed psychic abilities and subjected her to the first project Paragon test protocols.
Alma displayed psychic abilities well beyond any recorded subject at the time.
It was determined that Alma's talents could be a major asset for ATC, especially as the company sought to increase its military technology operations.
Alma did not have a normal childhood.
In fact, she had no childhood at all.
The girl was subjected to rigorous daily psychic testing and training designed to coax out additional talents.
There seemed to be to end to her abilities; telekinesis, ESP, remote viewing.
Every test Alma passed.
And if she did not pass it at first, Harlan worked tirelessly with her until she did.
The world has never seen a psychic force like Alma Wade before.
However, Alma's psychic energy seemed to feed not on positive emotions.
Instead, her abilities were attuned to negative emotions--anger, rage.
And sometimes that anger was directed at ATC employees responsible for testing programs.
People complained of nightmares unlike anything they had ever before experienced--vivid, violent dreams they awoke from, sobbing.
Hallucinations haunted them during the day.
They would argue with their spouses, hurling invectives they never had used before.
It was as if Alma was bringing out the worst in them.
Harlan continued the testing and training.
Alma's psychic profile grew exponentially until the Paragon team decided she was almost too strong to contain.
She was threatening to become a danger.
The only thing stopping her from doing truly gruesome things was her young age--she simply did not yet know the ends to human cruelty.
But she was proving a fast learner.
During Alma's seventh year, Harlan mapped out a new project; Origin.
There was only one Alma and Harlan was interested in the possibility of creating additional subjects with Alma's psychic abilities.
One of the programs under consideration was the development of a psychic commander that could control a battalion of soldiers created by ATC's cloning division.
Harlan took the project to the ATC board of directors.
It was unanimously approved.
Harlan's research determined that psychic abilities were not guaranteed to be passed genetically, so the Origin team had to determine a way to create prototypes that could somehow "inherit" Alma's psychic abilities (even a fraction would prove a success).
Hawlan decided on an experiment where Alma would be impregnated with a genetically engineered fetus.
Several members of the team would donate DNA to the project (including Harlan) and then implant the fetus in Alma so that it would grow within the psychic presence and through transference, take on some of that psychic power.
Alma was in no physical condition to carry a child to term--she was not even eight years old.
But her psychic abilities were close to being out of control and ATC could not risk allowing Alma to continue expanding her powers without some form of security to ATC assets.
Harlan devised a containment system for Alma in the Vault facility below Auburn.
Only two days before the turned eight, Alma was placed in a medically induced coma and transferred to the containment system.
There she remained until her body was physically capable of gestation.
At fourteen, Alma was impregnanted with the first prototype (AKA Point Man).
A year later, she was impregnated with the second prototype, Paxton Fettel.
Due to complications with maintaining her induced coma during the first birth, Alma became aware that her body was used as a vessel for the prototypes.
It was unknown if the memories of the prototypes would survive her return to the induced coma state.
The answer came when Fettel was 10 years old.
Somehow, Alma reached out from the Vault and joined minds with Fettel.
Fettel recieved an order from Alma to kill ATC employees.
The death count reached seven before Fettel was finally contained.
As a result of learning that Alma's consciousness was escaping the containment facility, it was decided to cut off her life support systems.
Six days following the termination of life support, Alma died.
Despite her physical death, Alma Wade was not gone.
Her psychic presence lingered within the Vault's containment system.
After effects of Alma's presence, what was later called "tendrils", infect the general consciousness of the citizens of Auburn.
What can only be described as a sense of uneasiness settled over the city, driving awat a good portion of the population.
While Alma's body withered in the Vault and harlan tried to figure out how to minimize what's left of Alma's psychic imprint, project Perseus went forward.
Paxton Fettel was trained to command an entire battalion of cloned Replica soldiers with only his mind.
The project was deemed a great success.
Practically the entire future of ATC was staked on the results of Perseus.
Then the second sunchronicity event occurred.
Alma linked minds with Fettel again.
Fettel underwent a psychic break and was completely outside ATC control.
Alma ordered Fettel to use his Replica battalion to take revenge on ATC and liberate her from the Vault.
